Bosconia vineyard
The wines Viña Bosconia come from our vineyard called El Bosque. Its name comes from the vineyard the grapes came from. Originally, our greatgrandfather, the founder, with his french influence, gave the wines names inspired by French wines; therefore, the Viña Bosconia comes from a wine that he used to make in the French style of the Burgundy french wines, and he called this wine “Rioja Cepa Borgoña”.
The vineyard El Bosque is situated beside the river Ebro. Height is 465 m. and it is one km. away from our winery. In the north it has the Mountains called Sierra de Cantabria. The vines are planted in the hills with south orientation which gives them the perfect climate to mature the grapes. The soil is clay and limestone. The age average of the vines is 40. It has 15 ha.: 11 of Tempranillo, 2 of red Garnacho one of Mazuelo and one of Graciano.
Viña Bosconia
The wines
In general the wines of Viña Bosconia are elegant but with big body, deep in colour and good structure. With great complexity and expresion.
The Viña Bosconia Reserva is made every year in quantities that vary from 20.000 to 48.000 bottles. The difference between the Reserva and the Gran Reserva wines is that the first are made every year and are "coupage" wines and not vintage wines. They age 5 years in american oak barrel and are hand racked around 10 times before they are released to the market.
The Gran Reserva wines are only made in very exceptional vintages, in small quantities and from selected grapes. The number of bottles made varies from 5.000 to 15.000. They age in barrel for a minimum of 8 years to a maximum of 10 and some of them are hand racked over 20 times. After being fined with egg white directly in the barrel, they are both bottled and corked by hand, finally waxed so that the cork is protected when they lay in our underground cellars for another 10 years before they are realeased to the marked.
